FiloRAK?

Hi Peeps!

The last couple of weeks I’ve been noticing the word FiloRAK being bounced around.  First I thought it was nothing, maybe a spelling mistake or something, until it was literally spelled out to me; a Random Act Of Kindness – Filofax styleee!  Oh how excited I got!

Tonight I sent a request to be added to the facebook page because I love making little bits and bobs, and I have sooooooooo much stationery now (washi tape, cardstock, stuff that I’ve made previously that has ended up just sitting in my little hat box waiting for their turn in my Filofax but never got their chance, random little inserts etc…)  I WANT TO GIVE A RAK!

Course, I’ve no idea how this happens etc, but hey ho…

Someone please fill this clueless girl in 🙂

Lots of love

Slimline Finsbury Filofax: My Dad’s Birthday Gift

Hello Everyone!

My Dad is a Senior Manager within a large corporate company and he uses a cheap small diary (that is probably free from suppliers most of the time) to help him keep track of meetings and travel arrangements in his hectic worklife.

On his days off he has a Harley Davidson that he customises and takes to shows etc.  He’s  a huge Harley Davidson fan and I wanted to sort of… fuse the two lifestyles a little – show a little professionalism and yet a bit of personality to his working life.

So I thought a Filofax would be perfect for him.  I didn’t want to get him anything bigger or smaller than a binder that took Personal size papers (Pocket would be too small A5 too bulky for his Briefcase and Personal size papers are the most common – larger choice), so I had the choice of an original Personal, Compact or Slimline.  My dad isn’t much of a “clasp” fan either so I narrowed it down to a Slimline.

Looking around I really liked the look of the Slimline Holborn however I never got chance to see it in the flesh – however I came across the Slimline Finsbury in Staples – which I absolutely KNEW was the binder for my dad.  It was perfect.  Looking at the Personal Finsbury they seem really stiff however the Slimline is almost as malleable as my Malden, which I’m really pleased about.

When I got it home I couldn’t wait to get my vision into action!

Image

When I first took it out of the box, it didn’t lay completely flat, but I wanted a “ready to go” feel for my dad to just “run with it”.  It hardly required training to stay flat, after flexing the binder a bit it’s really pliable and floppy 🙂

I added some original Filofax tabs from my own stash first of all, then began moving things around for his ease of use.

Image

Course, I couldn’t stop there, I felt inspired to make this a fantastic, personal present for him.  So, out came the cardstock, Mac scissors etc…

Image

And then I created this first of all:

Image

The Slimline Finsbury did not come with a ruler so out of thin cardstock and a printed Harley Davidson embelm I created my own… and then I couldn’t stop once I started:

Image

Once they were hole punched and placed in the Slimline Finsbury, they looked like this:

Not content with just the front page and the ruler being customised, I used the Harley Davidson embelm yet again to “watermark”all of the inserts!

The pen I’ve got for him is the same style pen I use – Uniball Phantom, which is an erasable rollerball I found in WHSmiths.

I liked the Slimline Finsbury so much… I had to get myself one too!  Yep!  No idea what I’ll use it for but I just like looking at it…!  I’m sure I’ll find some use for it…

Until then.. Peace out!

The Filofax & Weight Tracking

Hi Everyone!

Last night I decided I was fed up using my iPhone to record my weight. To use the app I had, I needed to convert my stone to lbs, which was really annoying at best since I work and can easily understand stones.

I scoured the Philofaxy website for some kind of weight management tracker but to no avail – i could see the Weightwat hers meal records etc but no weight charts. being the visual person i am, i really needed something to look at so I considered requesting a template to be drawn up. Then something stopped me: why get others to do something that you can do for yourself?

I decided to create an undated weight chart for my filofax instead. Oh goodie! Another reason to open my planner 🙂

I created it in OpenOffice as I have a Mac, then copy and pasted it onto a document blank Filofax personal size paper template, then just printed out! I’ve done about 6 months worth, here’s a page 🙂

What do you think? Basic, but it will do the trick… I’m using it already 🙂

What inserts have you made and why?

Bohemian Filofax!

G’day folks!

I’ve been living it up lately in my vests and gauzy indian print skirts, 70’s print maxi dresses and bohemian smock tunics so that I could brave this wonderful British heatwave we’ve been having.  Those of you who know me know that I generally like to change my style dramatically – a lot!  So it comes as no surprise that I usually need to match my Filofax to my mood and style.

My girly pink overload was so time consuming to do and fun to look at etc, but no matter how much I adore pink, sometimes my bohemian style just HAS to take over and unfortunately I can’t squash it down.  I had to extend my personal style (as per) over to my Filofax.

A few months ago I purchased “Desert Blooms” and “Boho Chic” 8 x 8 Premium Paper Pads which I’d made a couple of Today Bookmarks from when I first purchased them.  Since then the cardstock sat in my cupboard earning me a lot of puzzled faces, not quite knowing what I ought to use them for again… until now.

I had a go at making my own dividers instead of using Filofax’s dividers or personal size Filofax paper as a starting surface.  Using the double sided papers I was able to create dividers with tabs still using original dividers to outline where I needed to cut etc.  Stick on tab names, laminate, hole punch and I’m good to go!  Here are the results:

Image

This is how they all look together – the first page being the page that will show the organiser number.

Image

These are the prints I’ve used – they’re all “double sided” so they have different prints on the back of the card.

And here is how it’s looking in my Malden.

With regards to my impending news, I’m afraid I’ve had to wait until tomorrow… all shall be revealed…!

Until then

Filofax Inserts Plan

Good Evening All!

Tomorrow is potentially the biggest day of my life and it’s really difficult to believe that in less than 24 hours time I could be in a completely different chapter of my life.  Of course, I can’t give the game away, but rest assured as soon as I know more about it, I will be really excited in letting the world know all about it too!

My Filofax is keeping me in top shape ready for tomorrow’s news as I prepare myself to be fully focussed and optimistic.  My Appointment times are all filled in with prep tips and just to make sure I don’t forget anything, I’ve even slipped in a little notepaper with bullets detailing items I might forget.

With regards to my inserts, I doodled in my work lunch hour today on the phone to my bestie (who has left her job and is now actively job hunting – which got me reaching for my HOT PINK business address Filofax (reviewed in a previous blog) to see if I could help her out.

Here is what I got:

Obviously there is still a lot to do and a long way to go… and I may change my mind/idea very shortly!

And now…  according to my Filofax I really need to think about gathering my required items ready for tomorrow…!  Wish me luck!

Advice wanted on how to create my own Filofax Diary Inserts

Hi everyone

For a long time I’ve been wanting to do my own Filofax inserts. I mean I’ve done a couple but… They’re so boring and I’m such a visual person.

My current diary is the day per page with appointment times from WHSmith.

But I want more. I need something visually attractive so that I feel inspired each time I write in there… You know?

I loved Raine’s wonderful day planner (limetreefruits daily planner), especially the appointment times extended hours and the page broken up to different sections. SUCH a neat idea. I printed some out (I’m a huge fan of her beautiful watercolours) and tried to use them…

But in the back of my mind more than anything, I knew I wanted my own diary inserts: with dates And times in my own font that has been used throughout my filofax… and sections that I would use and my own funky borders even an area to put pictures on each page: maybe even those drawings that are all over my dividers.

I wanted to do the same with address pages and password pages etc… But I have seriously no idea where to start, and what to do…

To give you a bit of background: I’m a lousy drawer and painter. I am terrible at using Photoshop or Seahorse or any other editing software. Top it off, I’m using a MacBook (yeah, I know they’re supposed to be for creativity but I’m really at a loss how they’re used that way haha!) and I have a Canon MG series printer that I print onto plain Filofax personal paper.

Does anyone have any really good advice? Could someone guide me to a tutorial or something I could follow?

Thanks everyone 🙂

The Filo goes to Tenerife!

Hola from sunny Tenerife!

Today I am writing this from the poolside of my hotel after taking a few days for myself and to bake myself bronze. Admittedly, I’m hellbent on ensuring that I have such a glorious tan to take home with me that I’ve forgotten my wonderful Filofax and my plans ahead!

Not sure about you, but whenever I’m on holiday I can’t think of anything past my holiday, when in fact when I get home on Friday I actually have a massive closure party in a Birmingham hotel to attend… And this Cinderella has nothing to wear to the ball!

On the plus side though, I shall be tanned and a bit slimmer (I hardly ever eat on holiday, I just fill up on Piña Colada’s!)

Normal service with the Malden shall continue soon once I’ve returned to the UK… I promise!

I shall leave you now with a photo of a view from my vantage point 🙂

Toodles, I’m late for my next piña Colada instalment 😉
