Gearing Up The The Move To The Malden – WARNING – Picture Heavy Post!

Hi Everyone!

Today I decided I really needed to finish off my tabs and my setup ready for me to move into the Malden (when it gets here… I know I only ordered it Monday but I’m so impatient…!).

In my lunch hour I hauled myself to The Range and purchased some card stock and patterned paper. I purchased:

– First Edition “Boho Chic” (like me, lol 😉 ) 8×8 card stock

– First Edition “Desert Blooms” 8×8 card stock

– Dovecraft “Super Value Designer Paper Pad” 100 sheets 25 designs 12×12 paper

Then I worked 6 hours solid on printing, cutting, arranging, colouring, laminating, trimming etc… so now finally, I only have one tab to complete once I’ve thought of some ideas… “REPORTS” – which house all of my notes from when I’ve been in meetings with customers ready to be typed up at the end of the week.

Without further ado, lets go the the first page of my Kendal to find:

The Queen Of Hearts!

AKA Cards, this tab includes my business card holders stuffed with my customers business cards in case I need them. Which I refer to. A LOT!

Secret Diary Of A Call Girl!

AKA Diary, self explanatory – I use WHSmith day per page with appointment times to enable me to book my customer appointments and plan my day effectively. They also have small notes at the bottom so things I need to get done that day are usually added there. At the very front of my diary I have a pull out Filofax year planner – all of my holidays and monthly bills are written in there so I can see at a glance what’s happening. All guarded by the professional herself 😉 Belle!

It’s All About Me!

AKA Information – I know, I know, it looks like I’m a little vain… really, I’m not – but I really don’t know what else to put here…. ideas please? This holds my vital info, as well as the generic Filofax conversion tables and holidays etc…

Wanderlust!

AKA Travel – a bit of a hippy printout I found online and HAD to use it… it holds my map of the British Isles, which has helped me out a little when my Sat Nav decided to die on me and I had to navigate myself from Kent back to Birmingham…!

Musical Notes!

AKA Notes – houses WHSmith ruled paper for jotting down all important things that have no relevance elsewhere.

Swirly Flowers!

AKA Inspiration – anything that inspires me, quotes, poems, a magazine cutout, people… it’s all in here! Could possibly do with a pocket to collect things in here… Hmmm.

70’s Flowers!

AKA Missy. Sigh… how to explain this one – you know the “perfect person” you strive to become? Well, I’ve named that “person” in my head “Missy”. The only way I can describe it is, when I was 3 stone heavier last year, to keep me going on my weight loss plan I had these ideas in my head of the end result, how I would feel, how I would look, how I wanted to be perceived, I knew I was due to be made redundant so a lot of it also focused on the type of role I wanted to be in… I guess it’s like a Goals Section, thinking about it now. All my aspirations will be in here, and the second photo shows the little pocket to collect clippings or ideas along the way.

Oh yeah, do you remember how I said I wanted this guy as my ruler? Daniel Jones

WELL… I’ve been looking around and LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of “Japan Corner” ‘s see-through dividers… (http://filofaxlove.wordpress.com). So I had a little attempt on my Mac using Seahorse (which is a nightmare to use if you’re a bit dim like me haha!)… it’s not great, and I’ll probably have to do a few more before I’m happy with the result, but yippee – I finally incorporated Daniel Jones (who is waving at me whenever I open my Filo, talk about an incentive to organise haha!) and the Australian Flag into a pull out divider – it’s also got a top tab saying “It’s A Beautiful Day” on it. To make me smile :). It’s not flat which isn’t great, I’ve heard of ironing laminated pieces but I’m a bit nervous about t

And there you have it! Hope you’ve enjoyed the whirlwind tour… just gotta get it into the Malden once it arrives… hurry up Amazon!

Take Care 🙂

Personal Kendal Filofax Customised!

In December I applied and got a new job as a Sales Rep covering the UK for an Italian Fastener Company. As a result, my priorities changed and I needed to become super organised!

I knew my little pocket Metropol would suffer so I decided to upgrade to a personal Kendal. It’s oiled leather that feels quite “suede” like to touch. I’m lost without it!

20130212-120213.jpg

It wasn’t enough. I longed to put my own customised stamp on it… And then found a blog somewhere (ill post the link once I find it) where someone had used stamps to personalise their tabs. AMAZING! I shot to my local garden centre that has a craft section within a couple of days and then after a theme had been decided (aUnion Jack theme, actually inspired by Filofax catalogue: the Malden “mod” theme and the Jack Vintage theme):

20130212-172748.jpg20130212-171139.jpg

I chose a red, blue and antique stamp ink, as well as traditional postcard/tags from portobello road and idea-ology. I also used decorative tape (old dates and calendars – as well as the Union Jack!).  Please see below for a very small snapshot of the items used.

The result was quite pleasing, travel related, patriotic, sort of an old and bohemian feel to it.

I remember I mentioned I wanted to do something with my ruler… Well, I did, this is the result:

I think I still want a Daniel Jones Inspiration ruler, perhaps I will get a clear ruler, decorate it with an Aussie flag and pop him on it ;). Ill put it in my personal section!

How have you styled yours?

For the love of Filofax

Good Evening!

I’ve been ill the last week – last weekend I became a human Hermit and didn’t see the world beyond my front door from 5pm Friday afternoon until 9am Monday morning.  It began with a sore throat and then ended up in my ears (which I really hate!) – but anyway, it meant that I lay on my sofa feeling sorry for myself and drinking my bodyweight in weak milky coffee and watching ‘feel good films’.  That meant Legally Blonde, Legally Blonde 2, Clueless and The House Bunny.

I noticed in Legally Blonde 2, Elle Woods uses a Filofax to organise her extremely busy lifestyle (all of those manicure appointments must be a drag 😉 lol)

As I love all things pink and Elle-Woodsy, I decided to take a look at what the big deal was about filofaxes – all I know about them is that those “Yuppy’s” used them in the eighties.

It turns out Filofaxes have been in the background for a long time with quite a lot of enthusiasts.  And oh… the inspiration I got from them  is amazing.

Armed with the idea of buying a Filofax, Tuesday evening I pottered off to my local WHSmith and Ryman Stationery store…  and came out empty handed.  I had milled around toying with the idea of buying a Personal size but I really wanted a lilac cover.  There were no lilac filofaxes to be found.

Last night I popped to a local retail park that harboured my favourite store – TK Maxx – only to find in the clearance section a lilac Filofax!  It was a bargain at £10, however it was a Pocket size rather than the Personal size I’d been looking for.

I got home all excited and looked inside… hesitated and thought to myself – now, I’ve got my organiser, what do I do with it now?  I’d been so focused on getting the Filofax that I hadn’t thought about how I would use it.  I’m not entirely sure I’m too happy with the basic diary that is provided with the organiser at the moment.  I’ll have to see how I’ll get on.  Also, I’d seen how all these wonderfully creative people online around the world had created works of art within their Filofaxes, I was worried I’d disappoint myself with my lack of creativity.

So, after 1 day of purchasing my Filofax, allow my to present the Lilac Metropol Pocket!

Anyway, once I’d sat down last night I decided I wanted to completely personalise my Filofax to my own needs etc, after scouring blogposts relating to Filofaxes (I don’t care if you think I’m a sad git!) and realising a lot of people use their Filofax to store inspiration as well as organising their lifestyle (I’m sure the inspiration is probably there to give motivation to use their Filofax and organise their life.

First thing I think I want to do is personalise my ruler.  I’ve seen a few people using that funky pretty stickytape and stickers on their existing ruler… but I want a ruler to inspire me to open my Filofax once the novelty has work off.  And I’ve decided I want this bloke as my ruler:

Many won’t remember him, but he was the musical talent behind Savage Garden; Daniel Jones.  Having Daniel Jones as a ruler would certainly inspire me to open my Filofax at least 😉  Ideally he would be in front of an Australian flag… because I love all things Australian even though I’m in England.

Since I don’t have access to a printer or a pocket sized hole punch I can’t begin doctoring this.  Instead I’ve brought a bundle of things to cheer me up; a pull out planner, some more dividers (since then I’ve decided I want to do all of my own dividers but I guess the generic Filofax ones can serve their purpose until I get around to all of the ideas in my head) and some post it’s designed specially to fit into Pocket Filofaxes.

If you know of anyone that specialises in making personalised Filofax rulers let me know!

Do you use a Filofax?  If so, how have you planned yours out?

Til next time

Kel
