Ooh-La-La Parisian Filofax

Good Day People, or should I address all as “Bonjour!”
Today I scoured a couple of my local craft stores for items Parisian themed. Why is it when I have an idea I can never find anything that I have in my head? I came back home a tad disappointed to say the least. Then I began sifting through my current “Stash” of Filofax inserts/dividers, card stock and washi tape.
I’m not one to wait for items to become available to me. I am the type that is incredibly impatient. If there is something planted in my head, at the time it is incredibly important that I have it right NOW. Realising I sound a little like a spoiled brat right now, I promise I’m not that kind of girl – I just have these incredibly strong emotions when I have an idea – it needs to be released as soon as possible from me, and then I’m free to move on to the next idea. So, with that in mind, I realised I’d have to ‘make do and mend’ with what I already had. Which wasn’t much…
Anyhow, here is what I got up to:

Taking blank Filofax cotton cream divider tabs (pack of 4) that came with an old Filofax I purchased a while back, a Stamp, and a Distress Ink (you’ll notice I’ve gone back to basics on this little project – lots of old ideas came back out to play!)I continuously stamped the divider to make it look like a letter.

20140427-194210.jpg

Next, I worked on two Filofax Today Markers, using washi tape and lace adhesive.

20140427-194246.jpg20140427-194316.jpg20140427-194325.jpg20140427-194343.jpg

I then used the same lace and washi tape on the dividers, just to give it a more uniform look. The lace is on the tab, if you can’t see the photograph clearly 😉

20140427-194356.jpg

My muse, and a French Icon, Brigitte Bardot, is my front cover, a photograph taken from a book, stuck onto a parisian themed white and pink striped page from the same book and decorated with lace and a film strip washi tape.

You’ll see that I’ve placed the inserts in my Deco, rather than the Finsbury.  I thought the pink was a little toooooo much…

20140427-194413.jpg

All put together here’s how it’s looking!

20140427-202831.jpg20140427-202840.jpg

20140427-194512.jpg

Naturally I had to pair the look with a marabou topped pen!

I know it’s not “proper” Parisian Themed, but hey ho, I quite like the simple design.

Have you changed your Filofax up lately?

Halloween Filofax

I have a love for Halloween. Not sure why, must be the fact I secretly enjoy being spooked!

Nevertheless, my love for Halloween also has me with a penchant for slightly gothic styles.

So imagine my surprise while scouring through a craft ideas magazine one afternoon and spotting the “gorjuss” range!

In the words of Rachel Zoe: “I die!”

Actually, I had been lusting for a few months over the “gorjuss” range, but to be honest, I had no idea how to incorporate any of it into my very very ungothic style Filofax. Also, my lovely Ozzie is certainly not a gothic colour (orange) so wasn’t sure how it would… Work.

But anyway, today I succumbed to a bumper decoupage pack which included A4 printed papers, alphabet stickers and loads of pictures to pop out!

I got it home and stared at it in horror: what do I do now??!

I decided to get my Filo ready for Halloween. That’s my excuse, anyway.

I’m already really happy with my setup so it was just a case of changing the dividers and today markers, as you can see, below:

When you open my Filo, the first thing you see is my notelets which I have hole punched ready to be used on the go and moved into the designated area.

Filofax Custom Today Markers

Good Morning!

UK Peeps, not to put a downer on us or anything, but did you know yesterday was the last Bank Holiday until Christmas now? But of course you did: we are an organised bunch of people, you’d probably known that at the start of the year unlike me, who discovered this depressing fact at 6am this morning just as I woke.

I was in such a hurry to post and get to bed last night that I forgot to post my net Today Markers… Which were made from the “Inserts” of the Smash range. To me, the whole range creates nostalgia within me: of schooldays and preparing for my first day back in September. I would spend ages in the likes of WHSmith wanting products I didn’t have the pocket money for (notably, that Sheep folder everyone seemed to have… You know the one: the badly drawn sheep that covered the entire 2 ring A4 binder on a bright yellow background? And it didn’t stop there: they had pencils, erasers, notebooks etc all in that design. I’m pretty sure they did a cow too…!) with my friends.

I think the Smash range would look amazing in one of those cute School Exercise Book type Filofaxes!

Anyway: here you go 🙂

20130827-074753.jpg

The above is my Month to View page marker. You’ll notice that my month is colour coded (I finally succumbed!) and the key is in the notes section on the far right hand side.

20130827-074951.jpg

I’ve added washi tape on my week to view page marker. The washi tape is full of “fab, want it, need it, love it” etc phrases with arrows… So much fun!

I’m trying to incorporate the same kind of colour coding system into my weekly pages (only in the blank areas closest to my page marker, not in the to do list in the line and check box areas. I’ve attached the code on the marker.

20130827-075335.jpg

There we have it! I have finally found the perfect set up for me 🙂 and about time, too!

Hope you have a great day!

Slimline Finsbury Filofax: My Dad’s Birthday Gift

Hello Everyone!

My Dad is a Senior Manager within a large corporate company and he uses a cheap small diary (that is probably free from suppliers most of the time) to help him keep track of meetings and travel arrangements in his hectic worklife.

On his days off he has a Harley Davidson that he customises and takes to shows etc.  He’s  a huge Harley Davidson fan and I wanted to sort of… fuse the two lifestyles a little – show a little professionalism and yet a bit of personality to his working life.

So I thought a Filofax would be perfect for him.  I didn’t want to get him anything bigger or smaller than a binder that took Personal size papers (Pocket would be too small A5 too bulky for his Briefcase and Personal size papers are the most common – larger choice), so I had the choice of an original Personal, Compact or Slimline.  My dad isn’t much of a “clasp” fan either so I narrowed it down to a Slimline.

Looking around I really liked the look of the Slimline Holborn however I never got chance to see it in the flesh – however I came across the Slimline Finsbury in Staples – which I absolutely KNEW was the binder for my dad.  It was perfect.  Looking at the Personal Finsbury they seem really stiff however the Slimline is almost as malleable as my Malden, which I’m really pleased about.

Image

When I got it home I couldn’t wait to get my vision into action!

Image

When I first took it out of the box, it didn’t lay completely flat, but I wanted a “ready to go” feel for my dad to just “run with it”.  It hardly required training to stay flat, after flexing the binder a bit it’s really pliable and floppy 🙂

I added some original Filofax tabs from my own stash first of all, then began moving things around for his ease of use.

Image

Course, I couldn’t stop there, I felt inspired to make this a fantastic, personal present for him.  So, out came the cardstock, Mac scissors etc…

Image

And then I created this first of all:

Image

The Slimline Finsbury did not come with a ruler so out of thin cardstock and a printed Harley Davidson embelm I created my own… and then I couldn’t stop once I started:

Image

Once they were hole punched and placed in the Slimline Finsbury, they looked like this:

Image

Image

Not content with just the front page and the ruler being customised, I used the Harley Davidson embelm yet again to “watermark”all of the inserts!

Image

The pen I’ve got for him is the same style pen I use – Uniball Phantom, which is an erasable rollerball I found in WHSmiths.

I liked the Slimline Finsbury so much… I had to get myself one too!  Yep!  No idea what I’ll use it for but I just like looking at it…!  I’m sure I’ll find some use for it…

Until then.. Peace out!

Brand New Customised Dividers!

Hi!

Welcome to part two of tonight’s two part show…!  Ahem.

I’m really anxious and excited to show you the results of 3 nights work slaving away on my living room floor surrounded by pink pages, ideas, sticky sparkly gems and girly embellishments…!  On a personal level, I feel exhausted from trying to get out this burst of basic “creativity” that surged forward recently.  Trust me, it is a godsend, but it’s also tiring!

As you know, I got bored with the setup of my Malden and found it to be too erm… well… not girly enough for my renewed love of pink thanks to watching my Heroine of the Modern Day:  Ms Woods.

I got bored with my very basic “picture on a pre-made tab” and be done with it – I wanted something that looked interesting, creative almost, pretty and visually exciting.  Oh, and the final reason (and should be most important but I forgot until now… oops), there were far too many tabs, too much information that didn’t need to be in there and generally… it was looking too stuffed full of things I didn’t really need.

As you know from my previous posts, I removed my business cards completely…  but I also removed the “information” tab, “notes” tab, “inspiration” tab and the “A-Z” tabs.  I have a heck of a lot of space left over!  My Malden is now a Skinny Minx and itching for more information…

Anyway… without further ado… here are the new tabs:

Image 12Image 17Image 10Image 8Image 14Image 11Image 13Image 9

And here is the new “today” bookmark:

Image 20Image 16

Now, now that the initial photographs are up… I must show you what a grand job my laminator did of mucking up 2 of my hard worked on creations….  I admit, it’s all my fault though… I shouldn’t have gone so mad with the gems…!

The below photograph was of the front page to the diary showing the Organiser Number.  On it featured an old fashioned showbiz mirror, and all the lights were made of clear gems.  The laminator decided it would be ace to drag them away from their positions and um… halfway down the page at random.  It also ate into the lace dollie and pulled it into one heck of a weird shape 😦

Image 7

The only other problem I had was when I put 3 tabs in together to be laminated on an A4 laminating page… one of the larger gems got dragged off the original divider altogether, and ended up distorting this one 😦

Image 15

Apart from those 2 issues (which will be corrected when I get my steam back…!) I’m loving, loving, loving my new ‘look’!  Here is how it looks in the filo :).  The floating tabs seem to have come out really well and are visible at-a-glance, which I’m really pleased about.

With all of that done, I think I can now rest peacefully until the next “surge” 😉

Have you ramped your filo lately?

Malden Inspiration

I sit in a service Station in the M1 ready to make the last 60 miles of my outbound Journey from Birmingham to Bolton for a meeting. But I’m so happy because last night I decided I’d had enough of my sticker clad “today marker”, and had a go at making my own. They’re super easy to make!

I just used 2 sheets of card (from the cardstock I purchased last week) and glued them together. Then I printed and cut out 4x “today” in the same font as my other tabs, stuck them on the front and back of my marker, laminated and punched the holes. He presto: here it is!

20130326-091724.jpg
And here’s the back:

20130326-091826.jpg
But then I thought it would be great to do another one for my personal section, so I can whip to it quickly, this time with a gorgeous Indian pink cardstock. As this is not a “diary” section I decided not to use the “today” headings do it was a case of just cutting out the card, gluing together, laminating and hole punching:

20130326-092124.jpg
The marker rests on a favourite poem of mine by Carol Ann Duffy, called “before you were mine”.

20130326-092257.jpg
Because I got so excited, I even did a marker for my friend’s Filofax (she insists she doesn’t have any artistic talent whatsoever. Me neither, but it doesn’t stop me making a fool of myself anyway lol). I ended up doing quite a few tabs for her with a “scrapbook” theme. Her Filofax is my old Pocket Metropol in lilac, so I chose the most pastel colours I could find to ensure I kept in keeping with the Filo. Ill see if I can get some photos done when I see her next.

I did make us both a lovely little photograph of us though:

20130326-092654.jpg
And then I got stuck in to my “report tab that I’d had no idea what to do with… I had an amazing idea from a comment made in a previous post about secrets and 007 James Bond. But I just couldn’t find anything Bond related with reports, so I settled on this really boring look instead:

20130326-093116.jpg
and there you have it!

Gearing Up The The Move To The Malden – WARNING – Picture Heavy Post!

Hi Everyone!

Today I decided I really needed to finish off my tabs and my setup ready for me to move into the Malden (when it gets here… I know I only ordered it Monday but I’m so impatient…!).

In my lunch hour I hauled myself to The Range and purchased some card stock and patterned paper. I purchased:

– First Edition “Boho Chic” (like me, lol 😉 ) 8×8 card stock

– First Edition “Desert Blooms” 8×8 card stock

– Dovecraft “Super Value Designer Paper Pad” 100 sheets 25 designs 12×12 paper

20130321-012223.jpg
Then I worked 6 hours solid on printing, cutting, arranging, colouring, laminating, trimming etc… so now finally, I only have one tab to complete once I’ve thought of some ideas… “REPORTS” – which house all of my notes from when I’ve been in meetings with customers ready to be typed up at the end of the week.

Without further ado, lets go the the first page of my Kendal to find:

The Queen Of Hearts!

Secret Diary Of A Call Girl!

AKA Diary, self explanatory – I use WHSmith day per page with appointment times to enable me to book my customer appointments and plan my day effectively. They also have small notes at the bottom so things I need to get done that day are usually added there. At the very front of my diary I have a pull out Filofax year planner – all of my holidays and monthly bills are written in there so I can see at a glance what’s happening. All guarded by the professional herself 😉 Belle!

It’s All About Me!

20130321-094052.jpg

AKA Inspiration – anything that inspires me, quotes, poems, a magazine cutout, people… it’s all in here! Could possibly do with a pocket to collect things in here… Hmmm.
20130321-095652.jpg

70’s Flowers!

AKA Missy. Sigh… how to explain this one – you know the “perfect person” you strive to become? Well, I’ve named that “person” in my head “Missy”. The only way I can describe it is, when I was 3 stone heavier last year, to keep me going on my weight loss plan I had these ideas in my head of the end result, how I would feel, how I would look, how I wanted to be perceived, I knew I was due to be made redundant so a lot of it also focused on the type of role I wanted to be in… I guess it’s like a Goals Section, thinking about it now. All my aspirations will be in here, and the second photo shows the little pocket to collect clippings or ideas along the way.
20130321-095758.jpg

20130321-095903.jpg

Oh yeah, do you remember how I said I wanted this guy as my ruler? Daniel Jones

WELL… I’ve been looking around and LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of “Japan Corner” ‘s see-through dividers… (http://filofaxlove.wordpress.com). So I had a little attempt on my Mac using Seahorse (which is a nightmare to use if you’re a bit dim like me haha!)… it’s not great, and I’ll probably have to do a few more before I’m happy with the result, but yippee – I finally incorporated Daniel Jones (who is waving at me whenever I open my Filo, talk about an incentive to organise haha!) and the Australian Flag into a pull out divider – it’s also got a top tab saying “It’s A Beautiful Day” on it. To make me smile :). It’s not flat which isn’t great, I’ve heard of ironing laminated pieces but I’m a bit nervous about t
20130321-100007.jpg

And there you have it! Hope you’ve enjoyed the whirlwind tour… just gotta get it into the Malden once it arrives… hurry up Amazon!

Take Care 🙂
